Mortal Bonds is the first book that I have read by this author, and I found myself really caught up in the lives of Jason and his son. Sears does a really good job at making the reader care about these characters and what happens to them. Jason finds himself hired to find some missing money and this simple case turns into a nightmare. I will be the first to admit that I didn't understand all the financial stuff discussed in the book, but it didn't end up mattering because it was the characters that I was invested in. Mortal Bonds has many twists and turns but at its center is a single father trying to overcome his past and do right by the Kid. Overall Mortal Bonds proved to be an exciting read, and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
