Locke’s Long Live the Queen is actually the first book that I have read in this series, and I found that I really enjoyed it. Despite not having read the previous two books, I was able to pick up on what was going on fairly easily and really got into the story. I really enjoyed Locke’s world building with a Britain with a vampire Queen Victoria at the helm and with goblins, werewolves, half-bloods, and even humans trying to live together. The book’s main story was well done with the introduction of a murderous Ali, a plot against the Queen, and a threat to Xandra’s family. All of these stories took the reader on a journey full of twists and turns that kept the reader guessing. The Xandra character was well developed and very easy to root for, and I enjoyed the character’s metamorphous as she came to accept her true self. Overall Long Live the Queen was a great read that I would most definitely recommend if you enjoy vampires, goblins, werewolves, intrigue, and mystery with your steampunk.
