Dead But Still Ticking by David M. Selcer

From the beginning Selcer captures the reader's interest by having the book's hero receive a mysterious check for five million dollars.  The person who sent him the check promises to explain but dies before he gets the chance to.  Winston is not your typical detective being an overweight lawyer however I found that a refreshing change of pace.  Winston stubbles into this case blind, but he does a great job at leading the way to solving the strange case.  The Winston character is developed fairly well, and the host of secondary characters that surround him only add to the book's story.  The book's mystery is full of many twists and turns, but Selcer does a great job tying everything together in the end.
