I have read and enjoyed Beaton's Agatha Raisin series however Death of a Liar was the first book that I have read in her Hamish MacBeth series. Despite being a later book in the series, I was quickly able to jump right in and enjoy this book and especially the characters. Hamish and his fellow villagers quickly drew me into their antics, and I enjoyed some humor mixed in with the mystery and drama. The book is full of enough twists and turns as well as some smaller subplots that help keep the reader quickly turning the pages. The mystery was well done, and I liked how things came together. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend starting the series with this book, I did find that I enjoyed it enough to purchase book one myself so that I can start the series from the beginning. Overall Death of a Liar proved to be an entertaining read.
